The Arrow of Light Crossover is one of the most meaningful moments in a Scout's journey — the bridge between Cub Scouting and Scouts BSA.
What is it?
Arrow of Light is the highest rank a Scout can earn in Cub Scouting, awarded to fifth graders who complete the program's final set of adventures. It's also the only Cub Scout rank that carries forward into Scouts BSA — a Scout who earns it can wear the badge on their Scouts BSA uniform as a mark of where their journey began.
The Crossover Ceremony celebrates this achievement and formally marks a Scout's transition out of Pack 972 and into a Scouts BSA troop, where they'll continue their adventure as a teenager rather than a Cub.
Why it matters
For five years, a Scout has built skills, friendships, and confidence through Cub Scouting — earning ranks like Tiger, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos along the way. The Arrow of Light crossover honors all of that growth while looking forward to what's next: more independence, more responsibility, and more challenging adventures in Scouts BSA.

Many packs, including Pack 972, hold this ceremony around a literal bridge — sometimes built specifically for the event, sometimes a natural feature at a campout or park. Scouts walk across it one by one, symbolizing the step from Cub Scouting into Scouts BSA.

- A recognition of the Scout's Arrow of Light achievement
- A formal "crossing" moment, often accompanied by words from a pack leader
- A welcome from the receiving Scouts BSA troop

When does this happen?
Arrow of Light crossover ceremonies typically take place in the spring, timed so that fifth-grade Scouts can transition into a troop before summer camp season begins — giving them a smoother start to their first year as a Scouts BSA member.
What happens after crossing over?
Once a Scout crosses the bridge, they leave Pack 972 and become a full member of their new troop. They'll start working toward their first Scouts BSA ranks, take on new responsibilities, and begin the next chapter of their Scouting journey — one that started right here, with their first Pinewood Derby car and their first campout under the stars.
