Service is not an add-on to the Scouting program. It is woven into the fabric of everything we do.
A Scout is helpful.
A Scout is kind.
A Scout leaves things better than they found them.
These are not just words for children. They are a standard for all of us — leaders, parents, and community members alike. When you volunteer with Pack 972, you are living those words out loud in front of the next generation.
That kind of modeling is irreplaceable. No amount of talking about service can match the image of a parent who serves.
🙋 What We Ask of Every Pack 972 Family
Pack 972 does not require a specific number of volunteer hours from every family. But we do ask that every family participates in the life of the pack throughout the year. So we've built an expectation of family service into each Den experience.
Each year, Den families take the lead and coordinate these specific Pack events:
🦁 Lions: Spring Campout
🐯 Tigers: Fall Campout
🐺 Wolves: Pinewood Derby Event
🐻Bears: Candy Bar & Meat Stick Fundraiser
⚜️ Webelos: Award Ceremonies and Banquets
🏹 Arrow of Light: Service Projects
Other Volunteer Opportunities
Our pack is entirely volunteer-led, which means the quality and richness of your child's Scouting experience depends directly on the adults who step in to make it happen.
When parents volunteer, the whole pack benefits. More helping hands means more activities, more adventures, and more one-on-one attention for every Scout. It means events run smoothly, dens stay on track, and no single person burns out carrying more than their share. It also means your child gets to see you show up for them — and for their friends — which is a lesson in community that no badge can fully capture.
You don't need to have all the answers. You don't need a background in outdoor education or youth programming. You just need to be willing. Pack 972 will support you with training, resources, and a team of fellow parents who are figuring it out right alongside you.
