Model Rocket Build and Launch
Every May, Pack 972 takes to the skies! We kick off the month with a rocket building night at Kenton Park, where Scouts will assemble their own model rockets from kits. Then, at the end of the month, we'll head to Portland International Raceway for the big launch — countdown, ignition, and liftoff! It's a two-part adventure that combines hands-on building, a little science, and a whole lot of fun. Mark both dates on your calendar so your Scout doesn't miss a moment of the action.
May 6 — Model Rocket Building 📍 Kenton Park | 6:00 PM
Calling all future aerospace engineers! Join us for a hands-on rocket building night at Kenton Park. Scouts will construct their very own model rockets from kit to ready-for-launch — learning about rocket anatomy, assembly, and what makes them fly. Be prepared to get a little glue on your fingers and bring your excitement! This is the first half of a two-part adventure — we'll be launching these rockets later in May, so every Scout will want to have theirs built and ready. Families are welcome and encouraged to join in the fun.
This is a Pack Activity — open to all dens.
May 30 — Model Rocket Launch 📍 Portland International Raceway Overflow Parking | 3:00 PM
It's launch day! Bring the rockets we built earlier this month to the wide-open skies of Portland International Raceway's overflow parking area for our big launch event. Scouts will count down, press the button, and watch their creations blast into the air — then (hopefully!) float safely back down for recovery. This is one of those afternoons Scouts will be talking about all year. Families, siblings, and grandparents are all welcome to come cheer from the ground. Don't forget to bring your rocket — and your camera! Sunscreen, chairs and shade structure also encouraged.
This is a Pack Activity — open to all dens.
